THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Fire & Rescue (TBFR) responded at 14:51 to a High/Low Angle rescue at Centennial Park’s off-leash Dog Park. During our response to this scene, further information was received that a young female had entered the water to retrieve her dog both becoming stranded. They were located on a small rock outcrop with a cliff embankment behind them and fast-moving water in front trapping them there.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue personnel proceeded on foot to the reported location of the female on the Dog path. We located the female and the dog on the small outcrop cold but uninjured. The female was then lowered a life jacket for safety. It was determined at that time that rescue operations could only proceed utilizing the Rapid Deployment Water Craft (RDC) and Fire Fighters to cross the swift-moving river to pick off the person as well as the dog. A team was also deployed down river from their location for safety.

The operation ended successfully with no injuries being sustained.
