$448,000 in Cocaine Seized

KENORA – NEWS – Kenora OPP has taken a major amount of cocaine out of circulation following a traffic stop on Highway 17A.

Kenora OPP report that on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at approximately 4:00 pm CDT, members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with assistance from the Organized Crime and Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), the OPP Drug Unit and Community Street Crime Unit, conducted a traffic stop of a westbound vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act violation on Highway 17A.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested the male driver and conducted a search of the vehicle. Police located approximately 4,480 grams of cocaine in the vehicle. The street value of the drugs is approximately $448,000.

As a result of this investigation, a 44-year-old male from Calgary, Alberta has been charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking-Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA) and Fail to Comply with a Recognizance X 5 under the Criminal Code.

He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice (Kenora) on April 10th, 2019 to answer to the charges. None of the charges have been proven in court.
