THUNDER BAY, ON — Four Queens teams participated in the OWHA Provincial Championship tournament this past weekend in various rinks across Southern Ontario.
The Bantam AA Queens had an early exit from the championship as they went 0-3-0 in their round robin games, being outscored 1-14 in those games.
The Sportop Midget AA and Gridlink Midget A Queens teams both made qualifying matches for a chance to make the Quarterfinals but each was shutout (Midget AAs 3-0 and Midget A’s 2-0) in their fourth and final games. The Midget AA Queens finished the weekend with a record of 1-2-1 being outscored in those games 3-8. The Midget A Queens actually only allowed 3 goals against the whole weekend but were shutout in their only two losses. They did manage 2 shutouts of their own however as they outscored their opponents 6-3 during their 2-2-0 stretch.
And finally, the Peewee Queens went on an impressive run in their round-robin matchups going 3-0-0 and outscoring opponents 8-0. Unfortunately, they’d get edged out in the Quarterfinal by the Nepean Wildcats by a score of 3-2.
