WINNIPEG – The scourge of drugs is one that police services across Canada are fighting to overcome. In Winnipeg, Police have shut down a  drug lab after following up on a call from a contractor.

On March 30, 2019, Winnipeg Police responded to a call regarding suspicious circumstances at a multifamily residence in the 100 block of Mayfair Ave. A contractor working on site had located what he believed to be a clandestine drug lab in one of the suites.

Responding General Patrol officers confirmed the presence of a lab and members of the Winnipeg Police Clandestine Lab Team were called to assist. The suite was safely ventilated and secured. While police were on scene the resident returned home. He was arrested at that time.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service units along with a Hazmat team also assisted. Two transit buses were deployed to temporarily house residents.

Police safely dismantled a fully functioning drug lab and seized various pieces of lab equipment, a pressure cooker, a chemical suit with gloves, and a self-contained breathing apparatus. Precursor chemicals in the suite included Drano, acid, and red phosphorus. Numerous samples have been sent to Health Canada for analysis. All potentially toxic substances were safely removed and the suite was secured.

Conal Patrick MORAN, 29, has been charged with:
• CDSA 7(1) Production of a Scheduled Substance
• CDSA 5(2) Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Methamphetamine)
• Mischief Under $5,000 x 2

Moran was detained in custody.
