Impaired Driving Message Not Getting Through in Fort Frances?

FORT FRANCES – NEWS – Fort Frances OPP were kept busy over the weekend with impaired drivers. Despite countless messages on media, and all of the education efforts, police in Northwestern Ontario continue to find impaired drivers on our roads.

Fort Frances OPP Impaired Driving Report

On March 15, 2019, at approximately 9:25 pm, officers from the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a possible impaired driver on the 200 Block of Scott Street in the Town of Fort Frances.

Officers located the vehicle and made a demand for an approved screening device breath sample. The driver subsequently failed and was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood and was returned to the detachment for further tests.

As a result of the investigation, Darren McCormick, 48, of Fort Frances, was charged with Over 80 contrary to Section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code & released by way of a Promise to Appear in Fort Frances court on April 1, 2019, at 9:00 am to answer to the charges.

Also on March 17, 2019, at 1:11 am officers conducted a traffic stop on the 600 Block of Reid Avenue in the Town of Fort Frances, On. As a result, Adam Thompson, 23, of Winnipeg Manitoba was charged with Impaired Driving and Drive with over 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. He was also released on a Promise to Appear in Fort Frances court on April 8, 2019, at 9:00 am.

Both have had their driver’s licences suspended for 90 days and their motor vehicle seized for 7 days.

Motorists who drive impaired by alcohol or drugs are subject to drivers licence suspensions, fines, vehicle impoundments, criminal records and increased insurance costs. Please drive responsibly, don’t drink and drive.

The OPP is committed to safety for all who utilize Ontario’s roadways. Members of the public are urged to report Impaired Driving by calling 911 in emergency situations. Complaints of impaired, aggressive or careless driving can also be made by calling 1-888-310-1122.
