Up to 15 CM of Snow Expected from Colorado Low

KENORA – WEATHER – When will winter release its grip on the region? Not this week it appears.

There is a special weather statement in effect for Kenora issued by Environment Canada. The weather service is calling for up to 15 centimetres of snow starting Wednesday evening and lasting through Thursday night.

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Kenora – Grassy Narrows – Whitedog
  • Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls – Morson

The storm system is a result of another Colorado low tracking into the region. The weather will likely impact travel as there are storm warnings in effect across southeastern Manitoba through to Thunder Bay and points east. The weather statement for Thunder Bay is for heavy rain.

Snow is forecast to begin near midnight tonight. The snow may initially mix with rain as temperatures will be near zero degrees. However, temperatures will slowly fall during the day Thursday and Thursday night, ensuring a transition to only snow. Around 10 cm of snow can be expected by the time the snow comes to an end Thursday night. Local amounts near 15 cm will also be possible through this period and thus a Snowfall Warning may be needed for some areas at a later time.
