Animbiigoo Zaagi’igan First Nation – Theresa Nelson is the Chief of Animbiigoo Zaagi’igan First Nation. This is a community on Partridge Lake off Highway 11 in Northwestern Ontario.

Chief Nelson graduated from Geraldton Composite High School with Honours. She also went to Sault College where she graduated from the Forestry Technician Program as well as the Fish and Wildlife Technician Program.
Chief Nelson is an avid trapper, hunter and fisherwoman. She is also passionate about business and owns Spiritstone Creations.

She has worked for her community since she was 16 years old. She has had many positions since that time but is most passionate about generating revenue for Animbiigoo Zaagi’igan First Nation and have been involved heavily In forestry, and more recently in mining. Chief Nelson is the lead negotiator with the Greenstone Gold Project which will bring twenty-two years of potential revenue to the community.
On International Women’s Day, it is the work of dedicated women leaders that make a difference in their communities. Women like Chief Nelson, one of the many elected Chiefs in Northwestern Ontario.
