THUNDER BAY – Representatives from five new organizations signed on to become members of the Thunder Bay Anti-Racism & Inclusion Coalition today at City Hall.
New members include:
- Bill Bradica, Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board
- Scott Pettigrew, Acadia Broadcasting
- John DeGiacomo, Anishinabek Employment and Training Services
- Nathan Lawrence, Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce
- Rhonda Crocker Ellacott, Local Health Integration Network
“It’s encouraging to see new organizations joining the Coalition, and we welcome them with open arms,” said Ken Ogima, Chief Executive Officer at Fort William First Nation, and Co-Chair of the Coalition.
The Accord is guided by calls to actions and recommendations made by the Seven Youth Inquest, the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
“This group comes with a message of unity, and a message of action to address racism and discrimination in our community. As a group we can implement real change,” added Norm Gale, City Manager and Co-Chair of the Coalition.
By signing the Accord, members of the Coalition from major organizations across the city commit to advancing equity and diversity in the sectors of governments, education, children & youth services, health services, municipal services, emergency services, libraries, and business, as well as at the individual level.
“We are pleased to sign on and become a part of this Coalition,” said John DeGiacomo, Executive Director, Anishinabek Employment and Training Services.
“We believe along with municipal governments, organizations within the community have a responsibility and important role to play in combating racism and discrimination and fostering equality, inclusion and respect for all citizens.”
