Police Deal with Armed Man in Confrontation
DRYDEN – Police in Dryden dealt with a potentially very dangerous situation on February 21st, 2019. Police had to deal with a suspect who was armed and resisted arrest.
Dryden Police report that Joshua ENNS a male who is thirty-one-years-of-age from Fort Frances, Ontario is now in custody and facing charges of:
- Two counts of Uttering Death Threats to police;
- Assault Police; Resist Arrest; Obstruct Police;
- Possession of a Firearm While Prohibited;
- Possession of Ammunition While Prohibited;
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose;
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm;
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm;
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon;
- Failure to Comply with a Recognizance;
- and Possession of Methamphetamine.
In a statement issued by Dryden Police, on February 21, 2019, at approximately 9:00 pm, Dryden Police was called to a disturbance at an apartment complex on Duke Street.
Officers observed ENNS standing outside the building also reporting problems inside.
Initially, ENNS identified himself using a false name but police immediately recognized ENNS as an accused wanted out of the Rainy River area for numerous criminal offences.
As police officers attempted to arrest the ENNS, he tried to flee and a physical altercation resulted.
While attempting to arrest and secure ENNS, officers observed that ENNS had a firearm inside the waist of his pants. The firearm was later found to be loaded.
ENNS is currently in custody and scheduled to appear at a bail hearing today in Sioux Lookout.
Dryden Police state that “The investigation is still ongoing. Thankfully, no one was injured during this incident”.
