FORT FRANCES – KENORA – Its official, the NDP candidate in Kenora-Rainy River will be Sarah Campbell. The decision was made at the nomination meeting in Fort Frances where over one hundred members of the Kenora-Rainy River NDP riding association gathered to nominate their candidate for the upcoming provincial election. It was a night of political speeches with Andrea Horwath, Howard Hampton and John Rafferty all taking to the stage to speak to the crowd.
There were two party members were vying for the nomination, Sarah Campbell, from Oxdrift and Robert Sinding from Kenora.
The vote, in Fort Frances was the final in a series of five traveling ballot box meetings in Sioux Lookout, Dryden, Red Lake and Kenora, After all the votes were tallied, Oxdrift’s Sarah Campbell was named the party’s candidate for Kenora-Rainy River.
“I’m overwhelmed with the outpouring of support,” Campbell said following her win. “This election is about choices and I’m confident that an orange wave is going to sweep across Kenora-Rainy River once again and across the province,” she said. “Dalton McGuinty has neglected his duties as premier and destroyed our northern economy. Voters want nothing to do with Tim Hudak and his Mike Harris clones who started the downward spiral.”
Provincial NDP leader Andrea Horwath was in attendance and addressed the meeting. Also on hand was outgoing MPP Howard Hampton and John Rafferty the federal MP for Thunder Bay Rainy River.
Campbell says she plans to hit the ground running and will be back knocking on voters’ doors tomorrow morning. “I’m looking forward to the campaign, and most importantly, speaking to the voters in our riding about their concerns — concerns that I will take to Queen’s Park on their behalf,” she said.
