THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Chill opened their exhibition series with Winnipeg’s Sons of Italy with a 3-0 win Friday night at Chapples Park. In the first of a two-game weekend exhibition series between the two teams, the Chill put on a dominating performance as they prepare for the start of the Premier Development League season.
The Chill scored early and never let up, with Andrew Marninez scoring in the 6th and 26th minutes to make it a 2-0 game. Nolan Intermoia rounded out the first half scoring in the 39th minute with the Chill leading 3-0 heading into the half-time break. The second half started out much like the first with the Chill carrying much of the offense. However, Sons of Italy goalkeeper Steve Sawatzk continued his strong form of the day, denying the Chill any opportunity to extend the score line in the second half.
It was an exciting atmosphere at Chapples Park, as over 475 fans were on hand to see the Chill victory. The second game of the series takes place tomorrow, Sunday May 30th at 1:00 p.m. (EDT) at Chapples Park.
