THUNDER BAY – Updated – A NetNewsLedger News Hawk shared this early video of a fire on Parkway Drive. Thunder Bay Fire Rescue dispatched at least three units including an aerial ladder unit to put out the blaze.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire at approximately 0545hrs today in the 400 block of Parkway Ave.

Initial responding fire crews reported that a carport attached to a residence was fully involved in fire. It was unknown if occupants of the home were inside at this time. A second alarm was requested by the crew on scene.

As additional crews arrived on scene they encountered a fast-moving fire extending into the attic portion of the home.

Attempts were made by firefighters to enter the structure to search for occupants.

Interior fire crews were forced to evacuate due to heavy fire conditions threatening interior collapse of the structure.

Crews safely evacuated and the fire was eventually brought under control with exterior fire attack while protecting an adjacent home that was saved from involvement.

It was confirmed soon after that all the occupants of the home had safely evacuated themselves before firefighters arrived on scene. There were no reported injuries. The fire cause is undetermined at this time and the scene is being held for investigation.

Total apparatus responding to this incident included 5 pumpers, an aerial ladder truck and a Command vehicle.

The thick black smoke from the fire was seen across the city.
