THUNDER BAY – Lakehead’s women’s volleyball team returns to the court this weekend for the first league-play matches of 2019. The squad makes the trip to St. Catharines and then Windsor, as the volleyball team faces Brock on Friday night, and then the Windsor Lancers on Saturday and Sunday.
“We are looking forward to being back into our league schedule,” Thunderwolves head coach Craig Barclay says. “We have had a lot of time off from our last match.”
Lakehead volleyball last saw action on November 16th and 17th of 2018, when they faced the Guelph Gryphons home in the Thunderdome. The Thunderwolves lost both games, taking a 1-6 record into the extended holiday break, and now look to bounce back in the new year.
“We have had a productive break,” Barclay says, “and lots of time to prepare for our first matches. Three-game weekends always pose a challenge, but we are excited to play two good teams in Brock and Windsor.”
Lakehead’s volleyball team will travel more than 2600 km in flights and drives over four days.
Brock currently sits at 6-5, and Windsor at 4-7.
“The second semester will be a good test for us as we have many good opponents both on the road and at home,” Barclay says. “Our entire division is filled with good teams who are all capable of beating each other. We are hoping to put ourselves into that mix.”
Lakehead volleyball returns home to the Thunderdome next weekend, as the Thunderwolves face off against the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, January 26th, and Sunday, January 27th at 2 pm.
