Sudden Death investigation on Onigaming First Nation

ONIGAMING FIRST NATION – On Tuesday, January 8, 2019, members of Treaty Three Police Service responded to a report of a deceased male found in a wooded area on Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation.

The male has been identified as Norman COPENACE, 47-years-old, of Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation. A post mortem examination was conducted at the Lake of The Woods District Hospital on January 9, 2019, and the cause of death is still under investigation.

Treaty Three Police Service, assisted by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region Forensic Identification Unit, OPP Regional Support Team and the Kenora OPP Crime Unit under the direction of Detective Inspector Martin Graham of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, continue to investigate this incident.

Police are requesting that anyone who may have had any contact with Norman COPENACE, or any information of his activities since December 31, 2018, to contact the Kenora Crime Unit at (807) 548-5534 or 1-888-310-1122.
