THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Fire & Rescue (TBFR) has received an unusually high volume of calls related to hydropower line hazards in the past 24 hours, primarily due to the heavy weight of ice and snow bearing down on hydro lines and poles.
As always, public safety during extreme weather conditions is the primary concern of the Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue Service. TBFR would therefore like to remind the public to avoid fallen/downed wires and sparking hydro poles and appliances. If any of these conditions are observed, do not approach them, and call 911.
TBFR has been experiencing some delays in response due to the high call volume related to these and other emergency incidents over the past 24 hrs. Heavy snow depths and icy roads have also contributed to some delays in responses by emergency services.
Motorists are reminded to avoid driving on area roads unless absolutely necessary until crews can service local roads and highways. Motorists are also reminded to slow down/pull over for all approaching emergency response vehicles.
