THUNDER BAY – NEWS – UPDATE – A serious accident last night has claimed the life of a 58-year-old male in Thunder Bay.

Police report that on October 29th, 2018, just after 8 pm, Thunder Bay Police responded to a motor vehicle collision which occurred on Fort William Road north of Mooney Street. Upon arrival, responding officers located a pedestrian on the roadway who was deceased as a result of the collision.

The Thunder Bay Police Traffic Unit was called to the scene to complete the investigation. The roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was gathered.

The initial investigation has revealed that the pedestrian, a 58-year-old male, was lying on Fort William Road in the southbound lanes when a white Dodge Caravan, driven by a 35-year-old Thunder Bay male, ran over the pedestrian. The driver attempted to take evasive actions, however, was unable to avoid the male.

A second motor vehicle, a Mazda pick-up truck driven by a 60-year-old Thunder Bay male, was also southbound on Fort William Road behind the Dodge Caravan. The driver of this vehicle also took evasive action to avoid the Dodge Caravan and the pedestrian, however, was unsuccessful and also ran over the pedestrian.

A third motor vehicle, a blue Dodge Caravan driven by a 32-year-old Thunder Bay female, was also southbound on Fort William Road behind the Mazda truck. The driver of this vehicle also took evasive action to avoid the other vehicles and the pedestrian, however, was unsuccessful and also ran over the pedestrian and struck the Mazda truck.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no other serious physical injuries reported.

With our daylight hours becoming shorter and Halloween arriving shortly, Thunder Bay Police are reminding pedestrians and motorists to be careful on our roadways. Pedestrians should ensure that they always cross roadways in a safe manner at intersections and wear reflective clothing. Motorists are reminded to always be on the lookout for pedestrians on or crossing the roadways.
