Sioux LookoutSioux Lookout, ON – The final day for child care services at the Norah Love Children’s Centre will be November 2, 2018. The Municipally-operated Day Care facility will close its doors for good at 5:30 p.m.

“All children at the Norah Love facility will be transitioned to a newly renovated and expanded daycare within Sioux Mountain Public School,” said Michelle Larose, Municipal CAO, adding, “the Sioux Mountain Children’s Centre will, in fact, offer five more toddler spaces that weren’t previously available at the Norah Love facility.”

In September 2018, the Municipality accepted an offer from the Kenora District Services Board (KDSB) to purchase the facility, in recognition that the facility would become surplus to Municipal needs following the completion of the expanded space at Sioux Mountain Children’s Centre.

“It has been a pleasure serving the families of Sioux Lookout over the last 35 years,” commented Day Care Manager, Kelly Negus, adding, “we are looking forward to continuing to provide high-quality child care services within the Sioux Mountain and Biidaaban facilities, located within Sioux Mountain Public School and Sacred Heart School, respectively, and we encourage parents with any questions to contact us.” Sioux Mountain Children’s Centre can be reached at 737-2055 and the Biidaaban Children’s Centre can be reached at 737-4570.

Tribute to Norah Love: The Norah Love Children’s Centre was named after a local pioneer in the provision of kindergarten programming in Sioux Lookout, Norah Love. Mrs. Love opened Sioux Lookout’s first kindergarten in her home in 1957 and later moved to the basement of the Catholic Church, and, finally, to Sacred Heart School. The facility was named in her honour 35 years ago.
