THUNDER BAY – She is going back to her roots as a merchant with a passion for antiques. Lori Paras and the Ruby Moon are taking a short break through the month of August. In September when the Ruby Moon re-opens it will feature some new additions. Now, don’t get too worried, the great menu of food, the live music on weekends, and the eclectic ambiance is all staying.
Paras will be making what she hopes will be welcome additions. They will include the ability to purchase food to take home and serve, as well as antiques, local coffee and teas and great gifts with a french flair for sale.
“The Moon will have more of a marketplace vibe along with the eatery. Ruby Moon will always be all about the food”, shares Paras. Adding the food to go, gift and antique emporium re-establishes Paras’ original concept that her customers grew to love out at the Mercantile in Nolalu, Ontario. “They all miss the Mercantile,” Paras says, “I hear how much they miss the candy store and our homemade pies that they could buy off the baking shelf. So, I thought ok, let’s bring back some of these wonderful options.”
The Court Street location for the Ruby Moon has seen changes over the past year since Paras opened her restaurant. Working with other local business owners, they have picked up the pace and made the Ruttan Block across from the old Eaton’s store a more vibrant and fun place to venture.
At the Ruby Moon, it isn’t unusual to see a blend of Thunder Bay people. You often see everyone from top business people in the city, local artists and local politicians all enjoying the food, beverages and scene. It makes for an interesting place.
The fun will re-start on September 8th with Ruby Moon having been through a needed rest time for the staff and management, as well as a revitalized venue.
Let’s all hope August moves quickly.
