Accident on Thunder Bay Expressway Results in Death and Injuries

THUNDER BAY – A serious accident on the Thunder Bay Expressway has resulted in the death of one person and injuries to another person. The Ontario Provincial Police report, “On Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at approximately 6:55 am, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 11/17.

A southbound automobile collided with a northbound automobile on the Thunder Bay Expressway, between Oliver Road and the Harbour Expressway.

The driver of the southbound automobile was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identification of the driver is being withheld pending next of kin notification. The driver of the northbound automobile was transported to the hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

OPP, OPP Highway Safety Division officers (HSD), OPP Traffic Collision Investigators (TCI), Forensic Identification Services officers (FIS), Thunder Bay Police Service, Superior North Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Thunder Bay Fire, and the Coroner’s Office attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

The Thunder Bay Expressway was closed while the investigation proceeded and was re-opened at approximately 12:45 pm. The investigation is continuing.
