THUNDER BAY – On 12 October 2018 at 5:00 PM, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Service responded to a natural gas leak to a commercial building at the corner of Memorial Avenue and Oliver Road.

The main natural gas line supplying gas to the large structure had been knocked off and was spewing a large amount of gas into the surrounding atmosphere. Three pumpers attended accompanied by a Command vehicle which brought 14 fire personnel to the scene.

The surrounding buildings were evacuated and the parking lot closed to further traffic.

Union Gas arrived on scene and were escorted to the meter where the leak was occurring and closed the valve mitigating the danger. The scene was left with Union Gas who rectified the broken supply line, ensuring the business had gas for the structures heating units.
