THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Running the International Border at Pigeon River has landed an Illinois man into hot water and behind bars in Thunder Bay.
On Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at approximately 9:11 a.m., a black passenger vehicle failed to stop at Pigeon River Canada Customs Border Crossing.
Members of the Thunder Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) located the vehicle on Highway 61 and conducted a traffic stop. OPP Forensic Identification Services and the North West Region Crime Unit assisted with the investigation.
As a result, Michael MELICHAR, 39 years of age, from La Grange Park, Illinois, United States of America was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Assault a Peace Officer While Carrying an Imitation of a Weapon contrary to section 270.01(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
- Possession of Imitation Weapon for Dangerous Purpose contrary to s. 88(1) CC; and with
- Imitation Firearm-Use While Committing Offence contrary to s. 85(2)(a) CC.
He has been remanded into custody at the Thunder Bay District Jail.
