THUNDER BAY – Bill Mauro is running for Mayor in Thunder Bay. Today the Mauro campaign is ramping up with a call on the Thunder Bay Police Services Board to delay the hiring of the new Police Chief.

Mauro is calling upon the Thunder Bay Police Services Board to stop the process of selecting Thunder Bay’s new Chief of Police.

Currently, the Police Services Board is under investigation by the Ontario Civilian Police Commission. The Commission is looking into the oversight provided by the Board to the police service in the City of Thunder Bay.

Mauro said. “I believe this delay is in the best interest of the Board, the new Chief, the police service and the community of Thunder Bay.  At this point, no one knows what the report will say. To hire a new Chief under these circumstances risks having the community lose confidence in the new Chief if the Commission report identifies areas of concern regarding the oversight of the police service”.

Mauro stated that this request is not a reflection on the current Board, but given the current circumstances, a delay in filling this position is in the best interest of all concerned.

Mauro is a former six-year member of City Council and an MPP for fifteen years for Thunder Bay Atikokan, serving as a Minister of several government ministries.
