Shuniah Fire RescueShuniah – At approximately 12:45 am on September 1, 2018, Shuniah Fire & Emergency Services (SFES) reports of a structure fire on Amethyst Harbour Cliff Ave.

First arriving crews reported a fully involved structure fire and initiated a second alarm. With the assistance of additional crews, the fire was quickly knocked down with the fire complexly extinguished at around 4:00 am.

Based on the evidence on scene and the information provided by neighbours, it has been determined the cause of the fire was lightning. A large hole was found in the floor of the structure and a nearby tree was split nearly to the ground. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was also in effect at the time of the call.

Ten SFES firefighters in six units, as well as OPP, Superior North EMS, and Hydro One responded to the fire. All SFES units were back in service at approximately 6:00 am.
