THUNDER BAY – NEWS – An incident of vandalism has damaged the restoration efforts of the caboose at Marina Park. There is likely an added forty plus hours of work that volunteers will have to put in to get things back to how they were.
James Tocker, the Vice President of the Thunder Bay Railway Historical Society posted on Facebook, “Someone or someone(s) broke into the caboose on the Waterfront. They somehow managed to climb up on the roof and smashed a window to gain access. Once inside, they were locked in, so they kicked out the door. The door has sustained severe damage, which will have to be custom rebuilt as it was originally built in 1928.”
“There is nothing of any real value inside the caboose. Items inside are of historical value and in many cases extremely hard to find.”
“Luckily for us, nothing else was damaged, but when I got the call this morning, my stomach was in knots as I drove in town to inspect the damage.
“It’s pretty sad when these ‘genetic misfires’ have nothing better to do than destroy the hard work of others.”
The incident has been reported to the Thunder Bay Police.
“As the Vice-President of the Thunder Bay Railway Historical Society, I speak on behalf of the entire executive when I say this really hurt. We have spent thousands of hours restoring this artifact. Not to mention over 200 hours of research to make sure it was historically correct.”
