Heat WarningKENORA – WEATHER – The heat is forecast to continue for the Kenora region as Environment Canada has extended the Heat Warning. The overall forecast for Kenora is calling for a high of 32. The Humidex is forecast for 40. The UV index 8 or very high. There is also an air quality advisory caused by local smoke in effect for Kenora as well.

Heat Warning in effect for:

  • Kenora – Grassy Narrows – Whitedog
  • Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls – Morson

The heat event will continue through Monday.

The hot and humid air mass will stay over the area for another couple of days. Daytime maximum temperatures will range from 30 to 35 degrees with humidex values reaching the high thirties or forty. Overnight low temperatures will be near 20 degrees, providing little relief from the heat.

Cooler temperatures and lower humidity are expected by Tuesday with the passage of a cold front.

Extreme heat affects everyone.

Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.

Check on older family, friends, and neighbours. Make sure they are cool and drinking water

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Air Quality Alert

Environment Canada says that “Possible high levels of air pollution due to smoke are expected to continue today, and possibly Monday.

“Smoke plumes from forest fires in Alberta and British Columbia will continue to affect areas of Northwestern Ontario near the Manitoba border this weekend. Air quality may deteriorate if the smoke descends to ground level.

“Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.”
