THUNDER BAY – The City of Thunder Bay’s Live on the Waterfront summer concert series continues next Wednesday, Aug. 8 with Scotland’s award-winning Celtic act Breabach.
In 2016, Breabach received the Scots Trad Music Awards ‘Folk Band of the Year’ for the second time and ‘Album of the Year’ for their fifth studio album ‘Astar’. A special Celtic Connections show to celebrate the album was held in February in Glasgow’s City Halls and was received with a sellout crowd and a five-star review in the Scotsman.
The momentum continued with nominations for ‘Best Band’ at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and for ‘European Album of the Year’ in the Songlines Music Awards. This was underpinned by a packed live performance schedule including tours of the UK, Sweden, and Canada and an exciting, energetic festival season across Europe.
Breabach went back into the studio this year to record their sixth album and is continuing their touring adventures across the globe. Delivering an increasingly mature repertoire and live performance while continuing to build their reputation at the forefront of the UK’s world and roots music scene, Breabach is a band at the top of their game and are not to be missed.
Halifax’s Hillsburn and Thunder Bay’s Pierre Schryer Trio will also perform next Wednesday at Live on the Waterfront on the OPG Community Stage. Both acts will also be featured at the Live from the Rock Folk Festival Aug. 10-12 in Red Rock.
Live on the Waterfront, presented by Ontario Power Generation and funded in part by the Government of Ontario, runs 6 pm to 9 pm every Wednesday in Marina Park. Admission is free.
