Dangers from rail car derailments have women set to block the line near Kenora

SIOUX LOOKOUT – On August 1, 2018, at approximately 6:17 pm, Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were dispatched to a report of an intoxicated female on the CN Tracks past the West End Train Bridge. She had tripped and fallen between the tracks, sustaining injuries from the fall. She remained on the tracks until a group of hikers came across her and called the Northwest Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for assistance.

Due to the isolated location of approximately 600 metres from the nearest road access, officers and EMS attended the scene on foot with emergency gear. A CN High Rail Truck was dispatched to assist due to the female’s injuries and intoxicated condition. The female was transported to the local Hospital by EMS for non-life threatening injuries, where she was treated and released.

As a result of the investigation, Whitney BEARDY (female) (25) of Sioux Lookout, Ontario has been charged with; Enter on land which a line work is situated contrary to section 26.1 of the Railway Safety Act.

She was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in Sioux Lookout Court on September 4, 2018, to answer to the charges.

The Sioux Lookout OPP would like to thank CN Rail and the Northwest Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for their assistance.
