THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – ALERT ENDED – Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the City of Thunder Bay, District of Thunder Bay, out into Fort Frances, Atikokan and Quetico. The Watch extends along the Northshore of Lake Superior.

Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:

  • City of Thunder Bay
  • Cloud Bay – Dorion
  • Kakabeka Falls – Whitefish Lake – Arrow Lake
  • Atikokan – Shebandowan – Quetico Park
  • Upsala – Raith
  • Seine River Village – Mine Centre
  • Marathon – Schreiber
  • Nipigon – Rossport

Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Thunderstorms affecting the area early this morning have weakened, but conditions are still favourable for thunderstorms developing this afternoon.

Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
