THUNDER BAY – WILDFIRE UPDATE – Time of Report 17:31 – There was one new fire confirmed by the afternoon of Friday, June 29, 2018.
- Thunder Bay Fire Number 30 is 0.2 hectares and located near Nemiman Lake. It is not under control.
There were 20 fires confirmed by the end of the day on June 28. These fires were located in the following districts: two in Dryden district, four in Nipigon district, four in Red Lake district, six in Sioux Lookout and four in Thunder Bay districts.
Sioux Lookout Fire 37 is a 70 hectare, lightning-caused fire approximately nine kilometres west of the remote First Nation community of Sachigo Lake. It is classified as not under control. Crews and air tankers are responding to this fire.

Nipigon Fire Number 24 is not under control at 55 hectares and is 17 kilometres south of the community of Nibinamik. Crews have been sent to this fire today as well as helicopters providing bucketing support.
Red Lake Fire Number 60 is not under control at 115 hectares and is located 20 kilometres west of Pikangikum. Four crews have been deployed to suppress this fire.
Red Lake Fire Number 38 remains in a state of not under control at 18 836 hectares. Over the next few days, ignition will be used to secure the western side of the fire closest to the community of North Spirit Lake.
There are currently 46 active fires in the region, 39 of which are under observation, under control, or being held.
The forest fire hazard is low to moderate in the southern portions of the region and high to extreme in the northern portions of the region.
