Heat Warning

THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – The warm weather is heating up in Northern Ontario. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the northern parts of the region.

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Big Trout Lake – Kasabonika
  • Sachigo Lake – Bearskin Lake
  • Fort Hope – Lansdowne House – Ogoki
  • Webequie
  • Pikangikum – Poplar Hill – MacDowell
  • Sandy Lake – Weagamow Lake – Deer Lake
  • Nakina – Aroland – Pagwa

The first heat event of the season is expected today.

Mostly sunny skies are expected through the day today along with a warm air mass. Maximum temperatures could reach near 31 degrees this afternoon as a result. Minimum temperature values of 16 degrees or less are then expected overnight which falls short of heat warning criteria. Relief from the heat will continue Friday with cooler temperatures along with scattered showers and thunderstorms.

The duration of this heat event does not reach heat warning criteria; however, these conditions pose a health risk when you are not used to the heat.
