DRYDEN – WEATHER – Across the western part of Northwestern Ontario, rain started last night. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement advising of rainfall for the region. While it might be good news for very very dry woodlands, it is also possible that there will be thundershowers which could cause fires.
Special weather statement in effect for:
- Dryden – Vermilion Bay
- Ignace – English River
- Kenora – Grassy Narrows – Whitedog
- Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls – Morson
- Fort Frances – Emo – Rainy River
- Seine River Village – Mine Centre
General Rainfall amounts of 30 to 40 mm possible
A slow-moving front over Northwestern Ontario will linger over the area until Saturday. The first round of showers and thunderstorms are currently moving through the area with radar estimates of 20 to 30 mm rain so far near Fort Francis and Rainy Lake. The next round of showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon near the Manitoba border and move through the Lake of the Woods area then continue eastwards overnight.
General rainfall amounts are expected to be in the 30 to 40 mm range. Locally higher amounts in excess of 50 mm will be possible with this event, especially for areas that receive multiple thunderstorms.
