OPP have laid a number of charges in a stolen vehicle investigation

FORT FRANCES – In the afternoon of April 12, 2018 members of the Ontario Provincial Police in the Rainy River District responded to a 911 call in which a 15-year-old youth male assaulted someone known to him and stole their motor vehicle. Police deployed a spike belt in an attempt to stop the motor vehicle. The male drove the vehicle into a ditch and was immediately taken into custody. No one, including the youth male, was injured in this incident.

The male was charged with the following offenses:

  • Assault with a weapon contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle contrary to section 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Theft of a motor vehicle contrary to section 333.1 of the Criminal Code
  • And Drive a motor vehicle with no license contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The male will be brought before the Youth Ontario Court of Justice to answer to the charges. The male cannot be named as he is a young person under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
