THUNDER BAY – NEWS – At approximately 09:55 am on February 15, 2018, Thunder Bay Fire/Rescue responded to a structural fire in the 400 block of Brock St. E. where a passerby called 911 to report a vehicle fire that had spread to an adjacent 2-storey residential structure. The first arriving pumper crew immediately established an exterior attack on the fire, thus preventing it from extending into the interior of the home.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the vehicle fire and control it from spreading further into the house while additional firefighters entered the home to conduct a primary search of the structure to ensure that any possible occupants within it were not in any danger from fire extension. A lone male was located uninjured on the second floor of the structure where he had been sleeping.

A second alarm was called for this incident. Five pumpers, an aerial ladder and Platoon Chief responded to this fire however second alarm units were cancelled en route after the Platoon Chief determined that initial responding fire crews had taken control of the incident. There were no injuries to report to occupants or fire personnel. The vehicle was heavily damaged by fire. The cause of the fire is believed to be due to a faulty extension cord plugged into the vehicle’s block heater. Fire damage was limited to the vehicle with some moderate damage to the exterior of the two-storey residential structure.
