FORT SEVERN – On Friday, February 9, 2018, a search warrant was executed in the First Nation of Fort Severn by members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) Guns and Gangs Unit with the assistance of the NAPS Emergency Response Unit and the Fort Severn Detachment.
The warrant resulted in the seizure of 12 firearms and ammunition which resulted in police laying the following charges: Careless Storage of Firearm, Careless Storage of Ammunition, Unauthorized Possession of Firearm, Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm, and two counts of Possession of Firearm Obtained by Crime.
Two accused were held for a bail hearing on February 10, 2018, in Kenora, Ontario for future court dates.
Fort Severn First Nation is located approximately 850 km north of Thunder Bay.
