THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Lakehead men’s basketball team (2-18) was swept by the McMaster Marauders (6-14) tonight, 94-88, on home court.
The Thunderwolves had a slow start this evening as McMaster held a 26-13 lead after the first quarter. Lakehead refocused in the second going on a 14-0 run to take the lead at 31-30. The Wolves and Marauders went basket for basket until the last minute as McMaster pulled ahead leading 51-47 at half.
The Thunderwolves came out and tied it up in an exciting third quarter and Lakehead trailed by 2 (70-68) as they headed into the fourth.
McMaster had an 86-82 lead with less than two minutes left and the Wolves were able to bring it within striking distance but the Marauders quickly answered ultimately making the game out of reach for the Wolves.
“I thought we competed really well and put ourselves in a position to get a win but ultimately McMaster hurt us on the glass and that was the difference tonight. I was happy with the way we attacked the rim, Nahshon, and Nick especially, and it’s something to build on going forward.” Coach Ryan Thomson
McMaster out-rebounded the Wolves 48-38. Nahshon Hurst had 27 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals tonight along with Nick Burke who put up 17 points.
The Thunderwolves play two games against Brock next weekend in St. Catharines.
