THUNDER BAY – Ontario Premier Wynne gave a short opening address and was then peppered with questions from several of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation Chiefs during her time at the Winter Assembly at the Victoria Inn in Thunder Bay. The issues surrounding the Far North Act were the focus of discussion for several Chiefs.

Chief Kanute from North Caribou Lake First Nation explained that the ramifications of the Far North Act and its veto power take away jurisdiction from First Nations and leave issues, like an all-season access road under provincial jurisdiction.

Chief Slipperjack raised similar concerns regarding expansion planning for a provincial park in her region.

The Premier was scheduled for a thirty-minute session, which ran well over that time, especially when she took some time to engage with students from Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School.
