THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – Northwestern Ontario is chilly this morning. However, there are no weather alerts or warnings in effect for the North. Armstrong Ontario is the province’s cold spot again this morning, an honour that seems to be fairly regular lately.
For Thunder Bay this morning it is a balmy -30c. Environment Canada says to expect clouds to come into the region later today, and that there will be light snow late today and into Monday. Overnight snow could amount to 2-4cm.
The Ontario Provincial Police advise that the highway near Vermilion Bay has re-opened for traffic following a closure that lasted until 02:38 AM CST.
An assault in North Caribou Lake First Nation, where reports are saying that an 85-year-old Elder was the victim has generated a lot of interest. An Emo man is in custody following his arrest by North Caribou Police and the Ontario Provincial Police.
Closer to home, Thunder Bay Police are still looking for a robbery suspect who held up Barb’s Laundromat on Victoria Avenue on the south side – Take a moment and view the video and see if you can help the TBPS solve this crime.

Experience Prince Arthur’s Landing in a whole new way at this weekend’s Winter Funday on Sunday, January 14. Come out to try snowshoeing between 2 pm and 4 pm. Child and adult size snowshoes are available or bring your own to explore the waterfront.
Winter Fundays run every Sunday until March 11th with a different free winter activity every week.
Thunderwolves Sports
The Lakehead Women’s Basketball continued on their winning ways. The Thunderwolves men fell to the Western Mustangs in basketball action on the road. The LU Basketball teams both return to action at the Thunderdome this coming weekend.
The Lakehead Men’s hockey team split their weekend series. Last night the Wolves fell 5-1 to the Guelph Gryphons.
The Underground Gym and the Lynx Clan Watch are looking for donations of gently used sporting equipment – the goal is getting kids active and engaged in sports. If you can help out contact the Underground Gym.
