London, ON – The Lakehead men’s basketball team (1-13) lost 77-67 to the Western Mustangs (8-6) tonight at the Alumni Hall in London.
The Thunderwolves pushed a quick 11-4 lead right out of the gate and the Mustangs were up for the challenge, taking back the lead, 17-15, after the first ten minutes. Both teams continued to battle back and forth in the second with the Wolves trailing 30-27 by halftime.
Lakehead found a small boost in the third, gaining a five-point lead at the end of the quarter but Western quickly recovered in the fourth, outscoring the Wolves by 15 to solidify the 77-67 victory.
“We competed really well tonight for stretches. We did a good job on the defensive glass in the second half but turnovers killed us in the end. We’re looking forward to getting into the gym Monday and working to get better.”– Coach Ryan Thomson
Former Thunderwolves guard Henry Tan had a nice night for the Mustangs, contributing 15 points and 3 steals.
Once again Mor Menashe had a strong night with 18 points. Jack Bull was big in the paint with 14 points and Kache Kopec put up 10.
Lakehead takes on Waterloo (6-8) next weekend on January 19th and 20th at home.
