GERALDTON – Three men have been fined a total of $1,500 for leaving litter behind at their moose hunting camp.

Kevin Gibbons of Woodlawn, Jody Watts of Nepean and William Vyse of Ottawa all pleaded guilty and were each fined $500 for depositing litter in a provincial park.

Court heard that in October 2016, conservation officers received a tip about a large amount of litter left behind at a moose hunting camp in Sedgman Lake Provincial Park, a nature reserve. An investigation by conservation officers from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s Nipigon and Kemptville enforcement units determined that the hunters had been camped at this location during an early season moose hunt. At the end of their hunt, they vacated the site but left behind a significant amount of litter including tarps, beer cans, a barbecue and other garbage.

Justice of the Peace Bernard Caron heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Geraldton, on December 19, 2017.
