FORT FRANCES – It only took ten minutes for the OPP in Fort Frances to make the first impaired driving charge of 2018.

On January 1, 2018, at 12:10 am, officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol within the Town of Fort Frances officers observed a Highway Traffic Act infraction on the 500 Block of Kings.

Officers then conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a 22-year-old woman from Fort Frances, was arrested and transported to OPP Detachment for breath tests. The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for the mandatory 7 days. The driver was subsequently charged with,

-Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

-Having Care or Control over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of Blood contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

She was also charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle; Fail to remain at the scene of an accident as well as Drive with No license.

She will appear in Fort Frances Court on January 29, 2018, to answer to the charge.

Fort Frances Crime Update

Also on the December 30, 2017 at 10:25 p.m. officers conducted a traffic stop on the 300 Block of Front Street, in the Town of Fort Frances. A 29 year old female Failed the Roadside test and was arrested at the scene. The motor vehicle was towed from the scene and the driver was brought to the Fort Frances Detachment for further tests and subsequently charges with Drive Motor Vehicle with more than 80 mgs of Alcohol in 100 millilitres of Blood. She will appear in court on the 12th of February 2018 to answer to the charge,

And in the early hours of the 26th of December 2017 members of the Rainy River Detachment were contacted by the Canada Border Services Office at the International Port of Fort Frances and advised of a 66 year old Watten Township man having Failed the Roadside test, officers attended and the male was transported to the Fort Frances Detachment for tests, subsequently charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with more than 80 mgs of Alcohol in 100 millilitres of Blood. He will appear in court on the 12th of February 2018 to answer to the charge,
