Special Weather Statement in Effect for City
THUNDER BAY – Snow is forecast to continue overnight. The weather has slowed down Thunder Bay Transit. Officials report that the road conditions have buses going slower. Check NextLift.ca for times, but also expect delays this morning.
Lakehead Board of Education reports that city schools are open. Thunder Bay Christian Schools is closed. All rural school buses have been canceled. The following rural schools are closed: CRESTVIEW MCKENZIE, VALLEY CENTRAL, GORHAM & WARE WHITEFISH VALLEY, and KAKABEKA FALLS.
12:15 PM – Ontario Provincial Police report that all of the Provincial Highways with the exception of Hwy 105 south of Ear falls have been re-opened.
Update: 09:00 AM – Hwy 17 west from Vermillion Bay to the Manitoba border is now open for vehicular traffic.
As of 10:30 AM OPP advise that Hwy 105 is again closed south of Perrault Falls due to a jackknifed tractor trailer unit. Update to follow once removed and Hwy opened.
All locations of the Thunder Bay public library will be closed until 1 pm today.
Power is currently out at the Waverley Resource Library. This outage impacts the computer and phone systems at all library locations.
Lakehead University is open.
EcoSuperior advises that The Keep It Simple Workshop scheduled for this evening, Tuesday, December 5 has been canceled.
Lakehead University’s PACI building currently has no power and is closed.
Ogden Child Care Centre is currently closed due to a power outage.
Thunder Bay Hydro is reporting outages across the city.
The Superior International Junior Hockey League has announced the postponement of Tuesday’s regular-season contest (December 5) between the Thief River Falls Norskies and Minnesota Iron Rangers at Hoyt Lakes Arena.
The cause of the postponement is due to a significant Winter Storm Warning that has been issued for northern Minnesota that may cause poor highway conditions and potential hazardous travel issues for the teams, officials and fans.
A make-up date for this game will be announced by the SIJHL once it is finalized.
UPDATE – Please be advised that Confederation College is open and operating in Thunder Bay, Geraldton, Marathon, Fort Frances and Wawa – classes and activities continue as per usual. Students on placement should check with their employers to determine if their workplace is open.
Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Kenora and Red Lake campuses are closed with classes canceled. Those from the region should check with their local campus if needed. People should plan to give themselves some extra travel time and drive with caution.

Accumulating snow on tap today.
Snow, heavy at times continues this morning. Total amounts of 10 to 15 cm are expected by midday. The snow will be lighter and intermittent this afternoon.
Strong and gusty westerly winds will result in blowing and drifting snow in exposed areas today and tonight.
Motorists should allow for extra time to reach their destination. Untreated roads will be snow covered and slippery, with hazardous winter driving conditions expected today.
