TROY, Mich. – SPORT – It was shutouts abound for the Thunder Bay Kings Saturday in Round 3 action in the North American Prospects Hockey League play in Troy, Mich.
The major and minor midget sides posted identical 1-0 blankings against Pursuit of Excellence from Kelowna, B.C. while the majors were also shutout 3-0 by Meier AAA of Michigan later in the day.
In the majors win over Pursuit of Excellence, Kyle Swerhun collected the only goal of the contest 6:38 into the middle stanza while Kings’ netminder Jordan Smith finished with 21 stops to record the win.
Meanwhile, in the loss to Meier AAA, Brett Postula scored all three markers for his side with James Downie making 16 saves in keeping Thunder Bay off the scoreboard.
Smith faced 30 shots in a losing cause.
The major midgets are back at it Sunday at 3:30 p.m. vs. the Tampa Scorpions.
Under-16 competition Saturday saw Michael Stubbs notch the lone tally in the triumph over POE of Kelowna early in the second period on an assist from Nikolas Campbell.
Stephane Bourgeois did the rest in the Thunder Bay net handling all 13 attempts fired his way in the victory.
The minor midgets return to the ice Sunday at 11:30 a.m. against the Colorado Springs Tigers.
