TORONTO – SPORTS – The Lakehead men’s basketball team (0-2) lost to the York Lions, 90-78, Saturday night in Toronto.
The Lions and Thunderwolves were all tied up at the end of the first quarter (21-21) and the two teams continued to go back and forth with Lakehead leading 42-39 at the half.
Lakehead pushed their lead into the third, but York went on a huge run that put them up ten at the end of the third.
York continued to blow open the score with Lakehead unable to recover, walking away with the 90-78 victory.
The Wolves out-rebounded York but gave up much too many turnovers that York was able to take advantage of down the stretch.
“We let the 3rd quarter get away from us tonight and that was the difference in the game. Defensively we’re giving up too many points to win these close games,” sated Coach Manny Furtado.
Nick Burke (Hamilton, ON) led the T-Wolves with 18 points and 5 assists.
There were over 150 alumni and parents in the crowd at York tonight cheering on the Thunderwolves.
The Thunderwolves take a break next weekend and will be back November 10 and 11 in the Thunderdome against Laurentian and Nipissing.
