THUNDER BAY – The 63rd Annual Northwestern Ontario Water & Wastewater Conference (NWOWWC) kicked off Thursday at the Victoria Inn in Thunder Bay. The conference welcomed water and wastewater professionals from across Northwestern Ontario.
The conference provides technical education and training for hundreds of water quality professionals who treat water and return it safely to the environment. During the day and a half of sessions, delegates have the opportunity to interact with policymakers, suppliers, and other industry professionals, but the conference is not just about technical concerns. Throughout the conference, attendees will have the opportunity to network, socialize, share talent and explore challenges in the protection and treatment of our water supply.
Featured speakers include John Hussynec from the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, speaking about the Effects of the Fort McMurray wildfire on the Water Treatment Plant and Bill Hutchison from Keewaytinook Okimakanak speaking on the Achievement of the Safe Water Project for First Nations.
“I’m really looking forward to this year’s line-up,” said Matthew Miedema, Chair – Northwestern Ontario Water & Wastewater Conference. “The itinerary has great variety with everything from corrosion control of lead in drinking water to contingency planning for pump station failures.”
Suppliers and local agencies set up booths displaying water and wastewater equipment, supplies, health and safety product information, and operator training opportunities.
