THUNDER BAY – NEWS – A would be tough guy appears to have met his match in a confrontation with a Thunder Bay Police officer. The officer suffered minor injuries while attempting to arrest a 15-year-old male last evening shortly after 8:00 PM EDT.

The officer’s vehicle was approached by a citizen outside of No Frills on Dawson Road and the citizen advised the police officer that two males were fighting outside Walmart. The officer intervened to stop the altercation between a 15-year-old and a 54-year-old.

The 15-year-old male was uncooperative with the officer and lifted his fist in a gesture to punch the officer. The suspect was notified that he was under arrest and he attempted to resist the officer. A male bystander came to assist until other uniform patrol officers arrived.

The 15-year-old continued to be belligerent and uncooperative while being handcuffed. A follow-up interview with the 54-year-old male indicated that water had been throw on him in the washroom and he confronted this male outside which started the altercation.

The youth was escorted to the police station where he was charged with Assault Police, Resist Arrest and Assault with a Weapon. He appeared in court this morning and was released to a future court date.

At the end of it all, the youth hopefully will receive a lesson that police and the law are to be respected.
