Rainfall Warning

THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – Batten down the hatches, grab the umbrella and get ready for more rain. Following a very powerful thunderstorm on Thursday night, Thunder Bay and a large area of the southern half of Northwestern Ontario are under a Special Weather Statement with rainfall in for forecast.

8:45 AM EDT Friday 15 September 2017
Special weather statement in effect for:

  • City of Thunder Bay
  • Kenora
  • Vermilion Bay – Dryden – Ignace
  • Sioux Lookout – Savant Lake
  • Red Lake – Ear Falls

An area of rain with embedded thunderstorms is expected to affect much of northwestern Ontario beginning this evening. The rain may fall heavily at times and is expected to persist for much of the night before slowly diminishing Saturday morning.

At this point, there is still considerable uncertainty with regards to which regions will see the heaviest rainfall. A general 20 to 40 mm of rain is expected. However, areas that receive several thunderstorms may see higher amounts.

The area is being monitored for potential rainfall warnings.
