Police Officer Dragged by Wanted Suspect

THUNDER BAY – A Thunder Bay Uniformed Patrol Officer was dragged by a car driving by a wanted Thunder Bay man.

The TBPS officer was dragged for several feet by a car driven by James Nolan Morriseau, a thirty-six-year-old male.

Police report that a black Impala was stopped by the officer at Arthur Street and Syndicate Avenue just before noon on September 4, 2017.

The male driver had a warrant for failing to appear for a court date. When the officer attempted to make an arrest, the accused began to drive away, eventually dragging the officer approximately 20 feet. The officer received minor injuries.

The accused and the car fled the scene.

The officer returned to his cruiser and both the driver and vehicle were then sought by police.

The injured officer was assisted by another responding officer in apprehending the accused in the area of Victoria Avenue and Simpson Street just after 12:00 p.m..

The accused was tackled by the officers into a glass window of a storefront in the 400 block of Victoria Avenue East. The accused and the two officers received minor injuries and were treated and released from hospital.

Thirty-six-year-old James Nolan MORRISEAU now faces additional charges of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
