KENORA –
Bob Nault, Member of Parliament (Kenora riding), announced the federal Gas Tax Fund investment in local infrastructure:
“This summer, the Government of Canada delivered more good news to the Kenora riding by allocating $2,279,649 through the federal Gas Tax Fund for municipal infrastructure,” stated Nault. “This is the first of two installments of annual funding for Ontario, which will allow municipalities in our riding to invest in much needed community infrastructure projects.
The federal Gas Tax Fund (GTF) is a permanent source of funding provided up front, twice-a-year, to provinces and territories who, in turn, flow this funding to their municipalities to support local infrastructure priorities. Municipalities can pool, bank, or borrow against this funding, providing significant financial leverage.
Every year, the GTF provides over $2 billion and supports approximately 2,500 projects in communities across Canada. Communities select how best to direct the funds with the flexibility to make strategic investments across different project categories, including in the areas of water projects, roads and bridges, local and regional airports, broadband connectivity, tourism, and recreation.
“Modern and up-to-date community infrastructure is essential to stimulating economic growth and providing people with jobs,” concluded Nault. “This is great news for municipalities as they continue to improve the quality of life for residents living in the Kenora riding.”
