MONTREAL – The double-deck vehicles that Bombardier Transportation are supplying to Israel Railways are modern and comfortable trains, used on Tel Aviv’s suburban network and for regional traffic.

Yesterday the first #TRAXX AC locomotive and six #TWINDEXX Vario double-deck coaches left Bremen harbor for their three-week voyage to Israel. There these innovative vehicles will play a major role in Israel Railways’ ambitious goal of electrifying their fleet.

Israel Railways has chosen to leverage Bombardier Transportation’s long-standing experience and know-how in the double-deck vehicle segment. The popular trains are based on a proven concept, in operation across Europe, and are compliant with all current safety, comfort and efficiency standards. The double-deck units come equipped with innovative technologies and features which include: body shells optimised for aerodynamics, functional high-quality interior designs with carpeting on both levels, and a state-of-the-art passenger information system (PIS). The vehicles offer flexible high seating capacity without the need to divide individual cars into several classes. The powerful air-conditioning-system provides comfortable travel temperatures for the passengers and the bogies, with secondary air-suspension, deliver and exception ride quality.

The same type of double-deck trains are currently in operation successfully throughout Europe. Deutsche Bahn, one of the largest and most-respected operators in the world, runs a large fleet of these vehicles and has added a further 90 coaches in 2010. The vehicles have also proven to be extremely successful for rail operators in Denmark, Luxembourg and Poland.

These trains are being loaded in Brennen and are bound for Tel Aviv where they will come into service.
