THUNDER BAY – BUSINESS – If the skies over the city of Thunder Bay seem busier, that is not your imagination. Thunder Bay Airport passenger volumes are off to their fastest start ever. In the first six months of 2017 over 404,000 passengers travelled through the airport. This record level of year to date activity exceeds last year’s volumes by 5.6%.
“Seat capacity added to airline schedules has generated very competitive pricing” remarked Ed Schmidtke, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Airport Authority. “Where last year saw additional capacity added to Toronto and Winnipeg, this summer has seen capacity added on northern routes.” Currently, three companies (Bearskin, Northstar Air and Wasaya Airways) have added capacity by operating aircraft with over 30 seats.
